HER BIRTH

by Lagos East

Blessed be the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from dead” (1 Peter 1:3, NKJV).

Certain events and activities took place before Lagos East Baptist Conference (LEBC) emerged. On September 30, 2008, at the Ministers’ Representative Council (MRC) of the Lagos State Baptist Conference, the late Rev. E. A. O. Oguntokun, through a paper presentation, initiated that the Conference be multiplied into three for a greater and deeper reach and for the enhancement of additional votes in the Nigerian Baptist Convention Executive Council. Thus, the idea was accepted by the MRC and it was reported to the Conference’s Executive Committee.

On October 18, 2008, the Lagos State Baptist Conference Executive Committee, having listened to a discussion on it, set up a Multiplication Study Committee and looked at the possibility of the multiplication proposal. On May 2, 2009 the committee, led by Rev. Dr. Emiola Nihinlola, reported among others that the Conference could multiply into three, based on the three senatorial districts of Lagos State with few modifications. The committee recommended that the three conferences should be: Lagos Central Baptist Conference, Lagos East Baptist Conference and Lagos West Baptist Conference.

On September 10, 2009, during the 50th session of the Lagos State Baptist Conference held at Baptist Model High School, Ijegun, it was presented and approved that the Lagos State Baptist Conference should multiply. Consequently, the Executive Committee of the Conference at her meeting on October 10, 2009 nominated a seven-member Technical Committee to work out the modalities for the multiplication of the Conference into three as adopted. Following the emergence of the three conferences, which are Lagos Central, Lagos East and Lagos West Baptist Conferences, based on one of the recommendations of the Technical Committee, two anchormen were elected for each of the conferences to provide leadership for the new conferences. The late Rev. Oguntokun and Dn. Adeniyi Adesola were nominated by the Lagos State Conference Executive Committee as the anchormen for Lagos East Baptist Conference (LEBC).
